An InstaTasting At Rowe Ridge Vineyards and Winery

For those who haven't followed us long, we enjoy a nice glass of wine. Of course, we find that the reason they make so many varieties, is because everyone has their own preferences. Fortunately, we both are fans of wines on the sweet side, so it's not hard for us to find a bottle we both agree on. On a beautiful Fall day, we joined a group of social influencers for a visit to Rowe Ridge Vineyard & Winery, located at 11255 Leavenworth Road in Kansas City, Kansas. We want to thank Visit KCK and Rowe Ridge Winery for their hospitality. Rest assured [...]

Sweets, Treats, and Surprises In Chanute, Kansas

Most everyone enjoys a vacation, but only has the opportunity to take a handful at most per year. In between these longer trips, it is fun to have a few day trip options in your back pocket. We have lots of small to medium size towns and cities within a two to three hour drive from our hometown, which make excellent escapes. Chanute, Kansas is a good example of this, as it rests just a couple hours south of the Kansas City metro. We picked a beautiful Fall day to visit this southeast Kansas town situated in the Neosho River Valley. The city [...]

This boutique style hotel sets itself apart from other hotels by offering a fun and adventurous atmosphere designed primarily for couples. See The World at The Kansas City Ethnic Enrichment Festival

Way back around 1980, a little annual event started up to celebrate the rich diversity found in Kansas City. We are sure that the organizers of this festival were hopeful that it would continue, but wonder if they could have imagined that it would achieve its current level of success. Here we are 39 years later, and the Kansas City Ethnic Enrichment Festival is still going strong. Held in the middle of August, this multicultural celebration embraces the reality that Kansas City is "The Melting Pot of the Midwest". Over 50 Countries We dropped in to the festival on a Saturday evening to [...]

Abilene, Kansas – Presidents, Residents, and Plenty Of Chicken

We enjoy visiting destinations that can be reached in just a couple of hours. Living in the Midwest, we tend to space our cities a little farther apart than what is found on the coasts. Fortunately, the miles between are filled with some beautiful landscape. Abilene, Kansas makes a perfect day trip from the Kansas City area, but on our visit we spent the night. This allowed us to add a couple more stops to our itinerary. Being the northern end of the Chisholm Trail meant that the rowdy and rambunctious cowboys couldn't wait to arrive. Much like them, we were ready to [...]

A Story Of Passion Extinguished – Vaile Mansion

Kansas City is a metropolis filled with countless tales. Every corner of the city has its urban legends, myths, and tall tales. Somewhere along the way, many of these began with an inkling of truth and were merely stretched with passing time. Not long after the Civil War ended, many pioneers would pass through Independence on their way out west. A steady stream of travelers would have traveled along a path that would have led them past the Vaile Mansion at 1500 North Liberty Street. Many sories were spun regarding this massive home that rose high above the rolling hills. A Love Story [...]

On The History Trail in Miami County – A Kansas City Road Trip

Kansas Citians are blessed to have so many things to do in the metro area. Of course, sometimes it is nice to get away from the city for the day and strike out to one of the nearby communities. With just a little planning, it's easy to fill a day with new sights and some delicious treats. We swung by First Watch to fuel up before our trip and to get our coffee fix. The menu has obviously changed here, since we seem to remember it being an eggs and bacon restaurant in the past. Whatever the reason, we are quite taken [...]

What To Expect At The National Agriculture Center

The promise of a warm Spring day in Kansas City can often change quickly. Such was the case when we visited the National Agricultural Center and Hall of Fame in Bonner Springs, Kansas. We were meeting up with a group of social influencers who had been invited to an Instameet being hosted by Visit Kansas City, Kansas. By the time we arrived, a blustery wind had brought in clouds, cooler temperatures, and the threat of rain. At least the first portion would be indoors. We want to thank the Ag Hall of Fame and Visit KCK for their hospitality. Rest assured that all opinions are [...]

Why We Enjoy Places Like Miami County Historical Museum

There are varying opinions on the amount of enjoyment one can get from visiting a localized history museum. Some shy away from them, believing that they are dull and boring. Others, like ourselves, find that there are a multitude of personal stories just waiting to be uncovered. In Paola, Kansas we visited the Miami County Historical Museum to see and hear some of these local stories for ourselves. Please be aware that the museum is open during weekdays, but will make arrangements to have someone there on Saturdays by appointment. We want to thank the Miami County Historical Museum for their hospitality. Rest assured [...]
