Downtown Little Rock – Our Top Stops

2018 was a capital year for us, as it relates to traveling. We were able to visit four state capitals, including Little Rock, Arkansas. In each of these cities, we spent the majority of our time in the downtown areas. Each one offered a different experience, but we found a common thread between all of them. In each city, they are seeing a resurgence of interest in their urban cores. This has led to an increase in commerce, which gives visitors plenty of options for food, shopping, and entertainment. The Clinton Presidential Library sits downtown Little Rock, and draws thousands of visitors annually. [...]

Sampling The Flavors Of Little Rock

Little Rock, Arkansas offers visitors many ways to sample the flavors of the city. While the restaurant scene is flourishing, we found that there are some other unique options where you can discover amazing tastes. Our visit only covered about three days, but you will see that during that period we uncovered a wide variety of eats. We want to thank the Little Rock CVB and its businesses for their hospitality. Rest assured that all opinions are our own. The Root Cafe One of the key restaurants that we planned to visit was The Root Cafe. This locally owned and operated eatery is making waves on a [...]

Historic Arkansas Museum – Where History Comes To Life

Little Rock is a city filled with history and we love to learn about the beginnings of the destinations we visit. A stop at the Historic Arkansas Museum was sure to provide a good backdrop for us to find out about the start of the river town. Little did we realize that here we would see history come to life. Located in the heart of the downtown River Market section of the city made it a perfect fit for us, since our lodging was only a couple of blocks away. (Read more about the River Walk area here.) Start at the Beginning After [...]

Central High School – Conflict In Little Rock

Being at the forefront of the national news is something that many cities would dream of, but not when it is due to public strife. While the conflict at Central High School was 60 years ago, we still see some of the struggles continuing today. Little Rock, Arkansas may have been the backdrop for this particular integration crisis, but it was by no means the only stage where the drama was being played out. Free, But Not Free The Conflict in Little Rock originated with the Supreme Court ruling that states could not legally separate black and white students in different schools. Being from Kansas, the [...]

Cracking The Top 10 – Rock Town Distillery

In the past few years we have been seeing more and more small businesses gaining a foothold in communities. This is certainly a change from the long stretch we saw of big business edging out smaller competitors. While we know that bigger business platforms offer economy of scale, it's the smaller business models that bring unique items to customers. This change is being seen across many types of companies, like the creation of small batch distilleries and breweries. In Little Rock, Arkansas, we stopped by Rock Town Distillery to see what good things they are bringing to their locals. We want to thank [...]

Powering Up At Nexus Coffee

Like many of the cities we visit, Little Rock offers a vibrant downtown. The area we focused on was near the River Market district, which includes the Clinton Presidential Library, an amazing river trail, and a local farmers market. On a beautiful Saturday morning, we left our hotel in search of coffee, before hitting up the market. Our footsteps led us to Nexus Coffee, which is just across the street from the farmers market pavilion. A steady stream of customers hinted at good things to come. We want to thank the Little Rock CVB and Nexus Coffee & Creative for hosting our visit. Rest assured that [...]

Why You Should Visit The Little Rock Riverwalk

We hail from a river city, so visiting Little Rock, Arkansas gave us an opportunity to see how they have handled their waterway. With the Arkansas River bisecting the city, it becomes a focal point for transportation and recreation. While cities must always be aware of potential flooding possibilities, we like it when we find destinations that have incorporated this green space into their city master plan. Little Rock has done so by creating the Arkansas River Trail. We want to thank the Little Rock CVB for hosting our visit. Rest assured that all opinions are our own. Back To Nature At Central Arkansas Nature Center

You all know how much we enjoy being able to park for the day and walk to multiple stops. The River Market District in Little Rock, Arkansas is one of those kind of destinations. Sitting along the Arkansas River, we expected to catch views of plenty of wildlife. A stop at the Witt Stephens Jr. Central Arkansas Nature Center would help us know what to look for and identify the creatures we might see. We want to thank the Little Rock CVB for hosting our visit. Rest assured that all opinions are our own. Diverse Ecosystems Arkansas is made up of six distinct environments, which [...]

Lining Up To Try The Root Cafe

Our visit to Little Rock had a few surprises that we had not expected. One of them was with our visit to The Root Cafe. The plan had been to have lunch there on our first day, but an opportunity to appear on the hit show Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives meant that they had to close for the day. Fortunately, there was a backup plan already in play, so we didn't go hungry. During our stay in Little Rock, we kept hearing the locals rave about Root cafe, so we jostled our schedule to fit in a breakfast visit on our last day. [...]

A Passion For Science – Museum of Discovery

A chance to visit the oldest science center in the state of Arkansas was not something we planned to miss. While the Museum of Discovery was relocated to their current River Market location in 1998, they have existed since their founding in 1927. With its location being in the heart of the area we were staying, it made for an easy walk from our hotel. The museum is located in a section of the city that is filled with unique attractions, shopping, and dining options. It's kind of a one-stop shop for fun. We want to thank the Little Rock CVB and the Museum of Discovery for [...]
