Back To Nature – Weston Bend State Park

It appears that the key phrase for 2020 will be "social distancing". While it certainly poses some new hurdles for travel bloggers, it also challenges us to find some new ways to explore our world. This travel season will be filled with some places that allow us to get back to nature. On a recent trip to Weston, Missouri we included a stop at Weston Bend State Park. Located along the bluffs overlooking the Missouri River, this natural sanctuary is the perfect destination for some tranquil solitude. Famous Navigators In earlier times, the native tribes were drawn to the region for its rich [...]

Take It Outside – Avalon Cafe

With the lockdown restrictions beginning to ease, we decided to experience our first dine-in lunch at Avalon Cafe. As we explored Weston's downtown, we spotted the huge outdoor deck floating above the landscape. With our lunchtime hunger tugging at us, it was decided to dine at a place where we could take it outside. This upscale eatery seemed to be the perfect solution, as it combined delectable dishes and amazing views in one stop. Empty Spaces As we stepped through the doorway, we were greeted by the hostess. She informed us that they were offering dining inside or out on the patio. Looking [...]

A Stitch In Time – National Silk Art Museum

Visiting Weston offers a mix of new and old. This somewhat sleepy little river town holds its secrets close to the vest. Those who take the initiative to explore will be rewarded with unexpected finds. A good example is the National Silk Art Museum. This local treasure is situated squarely on the main drag and even has the denotation of 'Museum' on the front of the building. Even with that, it still seems to be overlooked by the majority of visitors. We popped in on a bright sunny morning to find out what we would find inside and to learn about this particular [...]

Kansas City developed much like other large metropolitan areas. Its expansion often came from incorporating nearby towns and neighborhoods, as it pushed its borders out from the urban core. A weekend outing offered a couples escape in Parkville, Missouri. This river town has plenty to offer visitors, so lets look at some of our favorites. We want to thank Main Street Parkville for their hospitality. Rest assured all opinions are our [...]

Frank’s Italian Restaurant – Cozy Parkville Dining

There is certainly something to be said for longevity. When we saw that Frank's Italian Restaurant had been in the same Parkville, Missouri location since 1931, it sparked our interest for a visit. While we were sure that the ownership has definitely changed hands, the fact that the business has survived, speaks volumes for customer loyalty. We dropped into Parkville on a Friday evening for a little miniature golf, followed by a quiet dinner for two. We want to thank Main Street Parkville and Frank's Italian Restaurant for their hospitality. Rest assured all opinions are our own.  Going Green Frank's Italian Restaurant offers [...]

Looking At Parkville Shops With Fresh Eyes

It amazes us to see the trends repeat themselves over the years. Much like clothing styles that refresh every few decades, we are witnessing a resurgence of the smaller boutique style shops. For many years, the big box stores were pushing these locally owned businesses out of the way. These days you can find more than a few of the mom & pop style stores throughout the city. There are even a few places where there is a collection of these unique destinations, such as Main Street Parkville. This happens to be one of our "go to" places when we want to spend [...]
