We find that the local history museums offer a great chance to get a better cultural experience in the cities we visit. In Lawrence, Kansas we made a stop at the Watkins Museum of History. Housed in the 1888 Watkins Land Mortgage and National Bank Building, this regional museum offers a view into the lives of past members of the Lawrence community. The museum is open year round, and free to the public. A visit to downtown Lawrence will usually involve a stop along Massachusetts Street. Known to locals as Mass. Street, it is lined with unique shops, interesting pubs, and tons of dining options. Most Kansas Citians have visited Lawrence, Kansas at least once in their life. For us, it has been quite a few times, and especially when our daughter worked at Kansas University. When we decided to plan a day-filled excursion, we knew our daughter would enjoy accompanying us to her old homestead.
