Hit the Mother Lode at Pizza 51

Some days the good things just fall into your lap. Pizza 51 West, at 5938 Mission Road was one of these good things. On a Sunday afternoon we were running late for having lunch. A quick check of the maps on my phone showed a pizza joint was fairly close to our location. Without any previous research we decided to just wing it, and drop in for a bite.Continue reading

Family Rules at Old Shawnee Pizza

You can tell a lot about a restaurant by the length of time it has been in business. Old Shawnee Pizza was established in 1969 by Joe Walker. Looking to provide a better life for his family, he borrowed the money from his father to begin the venture. Years later, seeing the need for more room, he moved to the current location at 60th & Nieman Road. They have since expanded to add a second location in Lenexa, Kansas. We have visited both sites, but prefer the original, as it is much closer to our neck of the woods.Continue reading

Plenty to Eat at Italian Delight

In 1971, a brand new indoor mall opened in Kansas City, Kansas. People from all around the region flocked to Indian Springs Mall to shop, be entertained, mingle, people watch, and eat. Italian Delight was among the restaurants to call it home. For years this was the place to grab a quick bite or a drink in the mall. People lounged over their meals, while watching the crowds pass by. It was a place to be seen. Many of us came for the pizza. The hot, gooey slices came with an almost limitless choice of topping combinations. The bubbly crust was tender with just the right amount of crispiness. Continue reading
