Eggtc. – Decent Dining

On some weekend mornings we enjoy having a late breakfast out. We are always on the lookout for new places, but find ourselves habitually drawn to our standards. When we stumbled upon Eggtc., we were pleasantly surprised. The restaurant is located just a few blocks south of the Plaza, at 5107 Main Street in KCMO. They offer up a diverse menu with surprisingly affordable prices.

Our arrival was close to 11:00 a.m., so we faced a line, but found chairs available for our short wait. Once seated we ordered coffee, and a Mexican style latte. The latte was especially delicious and very creamy. The menu is robust, and with the wide range of egg based options, it was difficult to decide. They also have crepes, breakfast sandwiches, and a variety of specialty dishes available. The wait staff was prompt, and we soon had our orders placed. The short wait for our food gave us time to scope out the interesting décor.

Crystal had seen the quiche on the online menu , and was looking forward to it. They had a couple versions that morning, and she chose the one with turkey bacon and avocado. She substituted fruit for the standard side potatoes. The quiche was rich and dense, but the crust was a little thick for her, and it detracted from the overall texture. We split our entrees, and I ended up with most of the crust. That worked for me, because it is my favorite part of a quiche. To me the crust was very buttery and flaky, so I enjoyed my portion.

Our daughter was with us this morning (she ordered the latte), and decided on the chocolate chip pancakes. You can order one, two or three, and she chose two. In hindsight she decided that one would have been plenty, as they are fairly thick and fluffy. As the chocolate chips melted, she spread them liberally over the cake. When I took a bite I found it to be a little too rich for my taste, but by watching the others at the table I have to assume it was well liked.

I had already played a round of golf that morning, and had worked up quite an appetite. I decided on the biscuits and chorizo gravy, which comes with a side of potatoes. I also asked for a single slice of French toast, since it is one of my favorite breakfast foods. The chorizo gravy added a nice kick of flavor, and the hearty biscuit stood up well to the gravy. The potatoes tasted a lot like French fries, only in cube size. The French toast did not disappoint, and the warm maple syrup added just the right amount of sweetness. We were all quite pleased with this discovery, and made sure to include Eggtc. on the list of favorites for future visits. With our appetites satisfied, we headed out to see what the day held for us. So who’s ready for lunch?

  1. Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day! Your photos look yummy. I retired less than a year ago, and my husband has been retired for several years, now. We love finding new places to eat and new experiences with our new-found leisure time.
