Funky Vibes at Fric & Frac

Have you ever walked into an establishment, and immediately knew it was a neighborhood hangout? Fric & Frac, at 1700 W. 39th Street, exudes this feeling from the moment you enter. Locals chat casually from table-to-table. Servers call out the names of customers entering the restaurant. Even the menu is filled with background stories behind the naming of key dishes. This local eatery certainly gives off a youthful, hipster vibe, but the clientele seems to cover most all ages.Continue reading

A Combined Effort at Homesteader Cafe

One of the best things about maintaining your own travel blog is being able to select the places you write about. We find that some of our best articles are those that revolve around a great back story. This is why we love doing restaurant articles. There are so many great life stories out there just waiting to be told. A prime example would be Homesteader Cafe located at 100 E. 7th Street in downtown Kansas City, Missouri.Continue reading

Get Your Squeal On at SLAPS BBQ

These days there are a plethora of cooking shows, and competitions that give the up-and-coming a springboard to quick success. This doesn’t mean that they don’t have to be every bit as good as their competition. Remember that social media can be a boon or a bust for businesses these days. A prime example of this boosted success would be SLAPS BBQ at 553 Central Avenue in Kansas City, Kansas. Back in the old days becoming a successful restaurateur was a long and arduous process. It required years of training, working your way up through the kitchen ranks. With hard work, and a little luck, you may be able to gain some notoriety. Continue reading

Eggtc. – Decent Dining

On some weekend mornings we enjoy having a late breakfast out. We are always on the lookout for new places, but find ourselves habitually drawn to our standards. When we stumbled upon Eggtc., we were pleasantly surprised. The restaurant is located just a few blocks south of the Plaza, at 5107 Main Street in KCMO. They offer up a diverse menu with surprisingly affordable prices.

Go Old School at Rosedale Bar BQ

Barbecue can be a touchy subject in Kansas City. Just the other evening we heard a group discussing the merits and pitfalls of various restaurants around the region. Everyone has an opinion, and all have a foundation from which they formed it. We are of the opinion that there is something redeemable about just about any restaurant one finds, as long as you go in with an open mind. When we aren’t sure what to order we usually just ask a staff member what their best menu item is or at least what is the most favorite. Since we mentioned barbecue, let’s talk about a Rosedale Bar BQ, a Kansas City, Kansas restaurant that has been around since July 4, 1934.Continue reading

Early Eats at Ronni’s Restaurant

It’s always fun trying a new restaurant, and especially when it has only recently opened. We recently stopped by Ronni’s Restaurant in Lenexa, Kansas. It was around Noontime on a Saturday, which worked out perfectly for this breakfast & lunch only diner. The restaurant is tucked away in a fairly plain strip mall located at 12812 West 87th Street in Lenexa, Kansas.Continue reading

Family Rules at Old Shawnee Pizza

You can tell a lot about a restaurant by the length of time it has been in business. Old Shawnee Pizza was established in 1969 by Joe Walker. Looking to provide a better life for his family, he borrowed the money from his father to begin the venture. Years later, seeing the need for more room, he moved to the current location at 60th & Nieman Road. They have since expanded to add a second location in Lenexa, Kansas. We have visited both sites, but prefer the original, as it is much closer to our neck of the woods.Continue reading

Making Waves at Mason Jar Brews & Burgers

A lot of buzz around Kansas City, Kansas of late has been focused on Mason Jar Brews & Burgers, a newer restaurant located at 941 North 74th Drive. Located about 1/2 block south of State Avenue on 74th Drive, the restaurant is in what used to be an old water-slide park, which some of you may remember from years ago. The building has also served as a local watering hole, but now Mason Jar has taken the reins. This is quickly becoming one of our go to spots when we don’t want to drive too far for a meal.Continue reading
